For my recent body of work I use imagery and techniques appropriated from pop culture and modernist works of art. My paintings and works on paper represent a mixture of representation and abstraction combined with painting and collage techniques. I have developed a visual vocabulary inspired by an archive of countless images. Adapting scenes from television, art history, advertising design, and comic books I create arrangements of diverse cultural references. Each of my works purposely overshadows linear narrative. By juxtaposing unlike elements I am reflecting upon the complex mass media production that dominates the contemporary human experience.

In using well-known childhood icons such as superheroes, athletes, cowboys, and corporate logos I create works that revolve around issues of masculinity and male rites of passage. My compositions are often satirical and play upon traditions of pop and minimal painting. Challenged by the ideas of icons from both my childhood and adult life, I establish a subversive vision of maleness.
